OVERVIEW
The C8679 is a data acquisition module for the multianode photomultiplier tube(PMT) H7546A. It simultaneously
converts analog signals from 64 channels into digital output in serial order.
OPERATIONAL PRINCIPLE
The C8679 is specially designed for collecting signals from H7546A which incorporates a photomultiplier tube with 64
channel (ch) multianode and its divider circuit. The module can eliminate troublesome work of constructing data
acquisition system from users for multianode PMTs.
The module consists of an FEC (front end card), an adaptor board and an ADC board with PCI interface (refer to the
block diagram in the rear page). The FEC has 64 sets of a charge amplifier, a waveform shaper and a sample & hold
circuit, and has a multiplexer as well.
The FEC needs a trigger signal for its operation. The user can select either self-trigger mode or external-trigger mode. In
the case of self-trigger mode, the trigger signal is automatically generated inside the FEC. It's suitable for periodical
signal detection.
The FEC starts integrating analog signals for all of 64 ch simultaneously after a trigger signal is generated. The
integration is continued for 1
s (it's named sampling time in this data sheet). Those analog signals are stored in the
sample & hold, and then are transferred to the adaptor board in serial order through the multiplexer.
Those signals are amplified by the adaptor board, and then are transferred to the ADC board, which is installed in a
personal computer (PC) (the PC isn't included in this module). The ADC converts those analog signals into digital
outputs. It takes about 100
s to obtain the digital output for 64 ch after the trigger is fed, when the clock frequency of
the ADC is set at 1.25 MHz. The maximum sampling rate is therefore 10 kHz.
The data acquisition of this readout module is operated with LabVIEWTM. The software with basic signal processing is
attached together. This readout module was developed with IDE AS, which is a reading company of ASIC chips for
variety of photodetectors.
